Radhakrishna, Chairman of the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission graced the inaugural function. Shri Abhishek Singh, IAS, Secretary in the Power Dept. Govt. of Tripura sent a message on this occasion. In the message Shri Singh has said : I am glad to know that the Consumers' Protection Association (CPA), based in Agartala in partnership with Citizen, Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG), Chennai is launching today a project in Tripura on 'Clean Energy Transition and Electricity Governance'.
I understand this project is part of a national project aimed at boosting clean energy transition in India by enhancing stakeholder engagement in electricity governance, in various states of India. The project seeks to empower CSOs and consumers through knowledge enhancement in electricity governance, clean energy benefits, policy involvement, and international best practices. It is expected this empowerment will enable effective advocacy, highlight systemic issues, promote energy efficiency, and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
Government of Tripura created and launched "The Energy Vision 2030 Roadmap", in July 2023. This strate- gic roadmap outlines essential interventions to ensure the sector's sustainable growth, emphasizing affordability, availability, and reliability of energy supply. The Energy Vision 2030 Roadmap paves the way for transformation across Generation, Transmission and Distribution segment and highlights major objec- tives from development of renewable energy, modernization of distribution utilities to upgradation of distri- bution infrastructure and cross border power exchange for ensuring energy security, industry investments and revenue generation for the government and the utilities.
Access to electricity is the index of development and standards of living of the citizens and has a causal relationship with high GDP/capita. In addition to facilitating the economic development of the State, access to electricity is also linked to social development of the region in terms of providing better quality of life and creation of economic opportunities for the population.
Tripura will likely require 692 megawatts (MWs) of electricity by the year 2030. Tripura Energy Vision 2030 Roadmap,' which includes short, medium, and long-term recommendations to enhance and excel the provi- sion of electricity services to the people of the state.
The Tripura government has placed a strong emphasis on clean energy, leading to the initiation of significant steps aimed at promoting solar-based electricity services in 1158-gram panchayats and village councils across the state in the forthcoming years. This move is expected to result in a reduction of power tariffs. Additionally, the industrial sector will utilize gas-based electricity as part of these efforts.
I hope this project will help in creating awareness among the people and contribute towards achieving the "The Energy Vision 2030 Roadmap", of Govt. of Tripura.
Due to my busy schedule, I could not attend the seminar on the occasion of the project launch, physically. However, I am interested in knowing the outcome of the deliberations and the progress of the implementa- tion of the project in Tripura.
I am aware about the activities of CPA to protect the interest of consumers in the North Eastern States, especially in Tripura.
I wish the project and the Seminar all the best. |
